Maya Katanaka

Maya grew up in Niigata, a town north of Tokyo and growing up took an interest in travelling and after completing High-School chased her dream, quickly realising to see the world costs money.

It took several long years working as an intern in a cramped office she had eventually saved up enough money and took time off to pursue a University course in Language.

Several months passed at by the end of it, Maya had leaned French, while not able to secure her old job back she was able to find work in a local grocers and eventually made friends with her Boss.

After 2 years, her Boss, Shinji had told Maya that he was planning on visiting France and thought it would be nice if she would join him to help as he wasn't fluent in French, she leaped at the idea and accepted.

During the week long shared vacation, Shinji had shown Maya the more interesting parts of France having been a few years before on the last night in France, Shinji treated Maya to a dinner at the Eiffel Tower.

The pair continued to dine and eat fine food and near the end of their meal, Shinji placed a small box on the table, leaning forward and said "Open it." clasping his hands together in front of his mouth.

Maya was speechless for a few minutes before finally smiling and saying "Yes." Shinji leaned in and kissed her on the cheek asking "Where would you want to go next?" taking his place again at the table.

Maya almost without thinking she replied "Italy!" Shinji laughed lightly and arranged for an extension on the couples Holidays which ended up costing several thousand more Yen.

Shinji and Maya spent three days in Italy before returning back to Japan where he would drive her home and saying he had a nice time, she asked if she could take some time off work to study Italian, he laughed and said "Of course."

A few weeks passed and Maya was staying at Shinjis apartment and saw him on his computer with his hands clasped in front of his face as though thinking about something, not thinking anything of it she went to sleep.

The months had gone by so quickly and Maya found herself fluent at another European language, she had been secretly saving up money to re-visit Italy with Shinji and she had called him on the Phone.

Shinji said "Sounds great!" but the tone implied that he wasn't that excited, she then continued to ask what was wrong, Shinji denied that anything was wrong with him and quickly disconnected the call.

After a week of trying to get in contact with Shinji, Maya decided to head to his house in Tokyo, not having a car of her own she had to catch the Bus and eventually arrived at his apartment.

The door was unlocked, unsure why, she continued to walk inside asking "Shinji, are you home?" there was no response so she walked into the bedroom and found him disemboweled in the bath.

"WE'RE COMING FOR YOU" written in blood on the walls, she immediately ran outside and called the Police on her cell phone who then placed Maya in a Witness Protection program and provided her with a job.

Her job was quite good, the Police took Mayas language skills into account and placed her in a international business firm with a reputable company which by coincidence allowed her to travel abroad.

During her time working for the firm, she was working part-time to study English all paid for by her employer she would have been excited but she was still depressed over the loss of Shinji and the thought that she was to be killed.

The weeks which followed, Maya would have the same nightmare over and over as though she was there during the time that Shinji was being killed and consequently would wake up in cold sweats getting hardly any sleep.

The weeks passed and the suspicion that she was going to be killed eventually wore off, but there was one fact which stayed, Shinji was dead, she would continue to be this way for several long years.

Months rolled passed and the police eventually tied Shinji's death to a violent loan-shark called Kenji Namotou, who at the time had connections to a few more criminals in the Tokyo area.

The court date was eventually set and it fell flat, Kenji while not imprisoned was still being supervised by Police due to his criminal affiliations and Maya annoyed with Kenji getting away with murder, bought a Pistol for 'recreational' uses.

Several years went by and Maya decided that today was the day she would get her revenge, so she decided to ask around if anybody knew Kenji there were a few dead-ends but she was eventually put in the right direction.

She had walked into a gang-controlled part of the neighbourhood and managed to stop herself several times from shooting Kenji on the spot, admittingly not a bad-looking person, he was quite charming in a Yankee sort of way.

She would spend several hours at a time leaning forward clasping her hands infront of her mouth as she thinks about the cause of effect of her actions, she decided it was best to pre-pack her bags for when the day came.

She had managed to 'accidentally' bump into Kenji at a supermarket and began to pretend to be interested in him by laughing at his jokes and flirting with him it took several months before he would ask her to come back to his place.

Maya was delighted, grabbing her pistol and catching the bus to Kenjis house where she would open the door and wait to be let inside before shooting the Police with him in the head and then Kenji several times in the chest continually screaming "I'm coming for you."

She ran out of the house and threw the Pistol into the gutter drain leading into the sewers, calling a Taxi and returning to her home and grabbing her bags and heading to Tokyo Airport with a one-way ticket to San Francisco.

Sleeping on the plane, she had a new nightmare she was stood over Kenji who was looking down, as she screams "I'm coming for you" and pulls the trigger Kenji looks up, but his face is Shinji's, she woke up screaming.

After landing in San Francisco Airport, Maya caught a Taxi to a Hostel, using the money she had saved in Japan to pay for her stay spending every day and night looking for work.

She was employed within a week and was able to earn a living while still staying at the Hostel, she had made friends with her Co-Workers though suspecting that they would somehow know she was a murderer.

Listening to a lot of American radio she eventually started listening to the bands on the Radio and would occasionally sing when she was happy, which wasn't often.

At Thirty-Eight, Maya continues to work and live quite happily in America though her life in Japan still haunts her in her dreams she knows that for the most part - She's completely safe.

Though it wouldn't last long and Mayas delusional time away from trouble would come to an end as she would be arrested by the San Fransisco Police Department to be questioned about the murder of Kenji Mamotou.

Her Co-Workers were shocked but figured it was something unrelated and didn't think much of it until on the news later that day, Maya would be on every news program for the murder of Kenji.

The court case rolled around and Maya pleased guilty to murder and was sentenced to twenty years in a prison complex north of San Francisco though her sentence was interrupted when the Combine invaded.

Backstory(3 paragraphs at least):
Born in 1983, her parents had split up before she was born and as a result had spent most of her childhood without a father figure in her life, her mother Ruth tried as hard as she could to give Imogen all the opportunities she could have, assisting her with her schooling whenever she could, placing her daughters future in front of her own present, this cycle eventually led to Ruth who had been a Receptionist at the local hospital to lose her position and become redundant.

It was an uphill battle for Imogen during her school years as she had become the victim of long-term bullying due to her unkempt uniform and hair, being nicknamed "Smudge" by her classmates, due to the amount of dirt and mud which would often find its way on to her uniform and face, however she was not deterred and did her best to try and ignore the bullying, but eventually her grades began to suffer and she went from being above average to being below average.

Ruth wasn't aware that Imogen was being bullied at school and consequently was unable to offer support to her as each time Imogen would come home, she would don a fake smile and say that everything was going good at school and fabricate stories about how many friends she made and the escapades they got into, it was during this time that Imogen decided to take up smoking to help calm herself down, leading her to be involved with the wrong crowd at school.

Imogen for once was actually glad that she was able to make friends finding her first love, Damien, who was nothing special but he made Imogen feel special and it the weekend she spent at Damien's which would lead her to fall pregnant and not knowing what to do, after being in a relationship with Imogen for three months, Damien broke up with her, fortunately Ruth wasn't entirely clueless and knew something was up and ended up talking to her daughter about relationships.

Another month had passed and Ruth was beginning to suspect her daughter was sick as she could hear vomiting coming from the bathroom at all sorts of unusual hours and eventually came to the realisation that her daughter was suffering from morning sickness, and while not able to pay for an abortion, Imogen had no choice but to keep the child, but Ruth agreed to raise her Grandchild as her own and as a result Imogen was able to resume her studies in school.

It was a decade later that Imogen eventually found employment with being an assistant cleaner at the Hospital which her mother worked at and continues to work there until the combine eventually came, though not having much of an idea as to what was happening, she was divided from her mother and her eleven year old son being transferred to another City and then had no choice but to try and make the most of the situation which she was presented with.

Provided me with a home to call my own, fed me, clothed me and given me the guidance I needed to continue to be involved in the Community by providing me with an opportunity to join the MPF to further prevent anti-social behaviour.

EXAMPLE ONE: 507 VIOLATION
C08.MPF-HELIX.04.484239 is patrolling with C08.MPF-UNION.02.773628 when the pair come across a Citizen running in District Two heading towards District One, they immediately surround the Citizen...
UNION says "<:: Hold it right there! ::>"
Male Citizen stops in their tracks, turning around slowly to see that there are two units to either side of him, "Shit." he thinks to himself.
UNION grips his SMG, aiming it slightly at the Citizens legs glancing at the HELIX "<:: Helix, Administer. ::>"
HELIX nods unclipping her Datapad, looking at the Citizen as she says "<:: Apply, Citizen. ::>"
Male Citizen hands the Unit his CID Card, knowing that at this point he has no other choice but to submit.
HELIX snatches the CID from the Citizen with her free hand, resting it on the screen of her Datapad as she makes a few changes to the Citizens profile, adding the 507 Violation and deducting the correct amount of LPs.
HELIX clips the Datapad back onto her belt and secures her Stunstick in her hand, removing it from her belt "<:: Why were you running, Citizen? ::>" she asks, a slight hint of annoyance is present in her voice.
Male Citizen says "I ... uh ... was ... thought I heard Rations ... being announced..."
UNION chuckles under his faceplate, changing it's firing mode from Semi-Automatic to Full-Auto "<:: You were running /away/ from Rations, Citizen. Tell the truth. ::>" He snaps, pointing the SMG at the Citizens head.
Male Citizen says "I .. panicked ... and I ran ..."
UNION looks at HELIX "<:: Detainment, 4 cycles. ::>" He says watching the HELIX Unit.
Male Citizen exclaims "What!? Why??"
HELIX grabs the Citizen arm "<:: Silence. ::>" She hisses as she thrusts her Stunstick into the Citizens abdomen, attempting to wind them, abolishing any chance of further resistance.
Male Citizen coughs loudly whilst collapsing on the ground, placing both his hands over his stomach.
HELIX repositions herself, clipping her Stunstick back onto her belt and removing a Zip-Tie from her Utility Pouch as she grabs the Citizens hands, placing them behind his back and couples his wrists together.
UNION continues to watch as the HELIX performs her duty almost flawlessly.
HELIX grabs the scruff of the Citizens Jumpsuit, bringing him to his feet and pushing him towards District Three
UNION walks along side the HELIX and chuckles "<:: Shame you're a HELIX. ::>" he remarks, chuckling as the pair continue to walk towards Detainment.

EXAMPLE TWO: BIOTIC TROUBLES
C08.MPF-HELIX.04.484239 is idling around Detainment as she receives a Radio message.
Commander radios "<:: Don't have much to do, Oh-Four? ::>" They ask over the Radio sounding somewhat annoyed at the Units idleness.
HELIX radios back "<:: I... Sorry sir, th-there's no Oh-Four plus Units online to Patrol with... ::>" sounding somewhat hesitant with her wording.
Commander radios "<:: We have a new Biotic which needs to be ... shown ... what their duties are... ::>"
HELIX radios "<:: Copy that. ::>"
Commander radios "<:: Oh-Five, attach to Oh-Four at Detainment. ::>"
Oh-Five radios "<:: I-Inbound, sir... ::>"
A few moments pass and the Oh-Five is seen running towards the Detainment area, stopping infront of the Oh-Four HELIX, breathing heavily "<:: UNION.05.483928 Reporting ... for duty. ::>"
HELIX looks over at the Oh-Fives uniform, noting the somewhat ruffled Uniform, a look of disappointment is hidden behind her Faceplate as she Radios on "<:: PT-A formed, U-483 and H-484, en route to Biotic Holding Cell. ::>"
The duo hurry down the stairs, though the Oh-Five, still somewhat out of breath staggers behind, however they eventually arrive at the Biotic Holding Cell.
HELIX swipes her hand over the Biolock, unlocking the device and allowing access for herself and the Oh-Five into the Cell.
Unshackled Biotic looks at the two Masked Ones enter the Cell in almost perfect unison "Thisss one ... greetss the masked onesss..." lowering his head slightly, coupling his hands together a low hum emitting from him afterwards.
The Oh-Five looks at the Biotic "<:: Shut your mouth ... You ... Green ... piece of ... uh ... filth! ::>"
HELIX clips the Oh-Five with her Stunstick, hitting the back of their head "<:: Idiot. ::>" she mutters, before turning her attention back to the Biotic, "<:: We have to mount your shackles, Biotic. ::>" Sounding vaguely uncomfortable with the idea of drilling holes into the Biotics bone allowing the metal fixtures to be mounted.
Unshackled Biotic flinches slightly, having been using his empath powers to try and understand what they're doing to do to him "Thiss one sensesss distress, Masked One..."
HELIX nods slightly "<:: I ... need you to face the wall and put your hands behind your back. ::>"
Unshackled Biotic continues to keep his hands coupled, "Thiss one cannot ... do this... Masked One..." A forlorn look overwhelms the Vortigaunts expression, the humming being emitted from their hands grows in volume and a sinister looking red light begins to flicker between the gaps of their fingers as they begin to chant in Vortinese.
HELIX grabs the Oh-Five, swiping her hand over the Bio-Lock, unlocking the door for a brief moment as she tosses the Oh-Five out of the Cell, trying to chase them out of the cell afterwards.
Unshackled Biotic closes their eyes as they finish the incantation a loud boom fills the room as an incendiary fire floods the room, wiping out the HELIX and the Vortigaunt, aside from a small pile of ash, nothing remains of either party.
The Oh-Five picks themself off the floor, looking at the cell not grasping what happened but the windows are now completely shattered but miraculously still held in place, he wanders over to the window and taps it with his hand... The window almost immediately breaks and sends slivers, shards and fragments of glass crashing down.
The Commander radios "<:: What the hell was that loud noise!? I can't see anything on the Camera feed! ::>"
Oh-Five still in shock from what happened, continues to examine the cell looking at the ash scattered along the cell floor, hesitantly radioing in "<:: Th... the B-biotic ... exploded... ::>"
The Commander lets out an irritated sigh before radioing back "<:: One less Biotic in the world, what about the Oh-Four? ::>"
The Oh-Five takes a deep breath radioing back "<:: Sh-she's ... dead. ::>"
The Commander radios "<:: Units, all Outland Biotics are to be immediately shackled when they are captured from this point on, failure to do so will result in the immediate suspension and then off-world relocation should this standard not be applied. ::>"


EXAMPLE THREE: HELIX BAY THEFT
The HELIX Divisional discovers that there has been several reports of missing medical equipment from HELIX Bay and is questioning each of the HELIX Units about it, one at a time....
HELIX.DvL radios "<:: H-484, report to Helix Bay. ::>"
HELIX radios "<:: Copy that. ::>" Immediately leaving Hardpoint Bravo and rushing towards Helix Bay.
The Helix Bay doors slide open, revealing the DvL standing behind his desk holding his Shotgun.
HELIX quickly salutes the DvL before approaching the desk, planting her feet firmly together "<:: Sir? ::>" She asks
HELIX.DvL looks at the HELIX, a hateful glare aimed at the HELIX "<:: I've been told you've been stealing Medical Supplies from HELIX Bay, Unit. Care to explain yourself? ::>" He snaps.
HELIX flinches slightly confused by the allegation "<:: Stealing..? ::>" she asks, "<:: I... I only use what I need... ::>" she says, sounding somewhat offended at being accused of stealing.
HELIX.DvL cocks his Shotgun, readying the next shell to be fired "<:: Don't bullshit me, Oh-Four, I /KNOW/ you've been stealing from the HELIX Bay. ::>" Raising the Shotgun, bracing the Stock with his Shoulder "<:: If I fire this and kill you, HELIX, it's only a Blackmark - But I will live on... For you, it will be the end of the line, confess or face amputation. ::>" He snarls desperate to get a confession out of her.
HELIX unclips her belt, shakily placing it on the Desk infront of her "<:: I ... H-haven't s..stolen anything s-sir... ch-check m...my... belt... ::>" she says nervously.
HELIX.DvL cusses under his breath, knowing that anybody who's been stealing wouldn't be so open about it "<:: Hmph. ::>" Ejecting the shell from his Shotgun, grabbing it and then placing it back into the Shotgun, "<:: Dismissed... For now... ::>" He says, sounding irritated that his bluff was completely wasted.
HELIX dispatches a stiff salute, being half-scared to death seemingly assisting with the promptness of the salute, before leaning forward and going to grab her Belt.
HELIX.DvL looks at the HELIX's hand approach "<:: Leave that there, patrol the Nexus interior until I've searched your belt, dismissed Unit. ::>"
HELIX says "<:: Y-yes sir. ::>" quickly retracting her hand and leaving the HELIX Bay, turning towards Detainment as she was asked to.
