GRID DvL Application Sheet
Steam name: Pacer
SteamID: STEAM_0:1:22085504
How long have you been part of the community?: I don't know, a few weeks.
How long have you been playing HL2RP?: Hour-wise, probably not a huge amount, but I've been roleplaying probably for what I'd call four years, in an effort to be accurate and not overstate experience.

Have you ever been banned before?: Not on this server, and not reasonably on others.

Have you ever had experience within staff or owned a serious RP server?: Yes. I'm still wearing tags to my currently unpopulated SSTRP.

What motivates you to want to become the GRID DvL?: I was approached and my application was requested under the assumption that as a candidate, I would be most likely to positively affect the status of the MPF as a whole. Or that otherwise I would best suit the role. If my motivations are questioned, my response will be one of necessity.

Do you have any past experience with running a division within the MPF?: I have past experience running divisions in military roleplays, and in units. My view of roleplay is jaded and veteranized, unassuming and pragmatic.

Give a detailed description what a divisional is supposed to do: Numerous. Your tasks are many and few at the same time. Among them are delegating responsibility and providing direction, supervising and overseeing other officers and ensuring they function as a team, representing and protecting your division and it's welfare, serve as a role model for officers and units alike, and overall be the best leader one can be. More practically speaking this means dealing with arguments, promoting people, approving applications, etc.

Give a detailed roleplay situation example showing how you would interact with a lower ranked unit. Just to be edgy, I won't. I want my application to be judged not on my ability to type in a long-winded /me, but on personal character displayed herein. Anyone I've roleplayed with can tell you easily and with confidence that my ability falls well within standards, and I would go so far as to say leaps and bounds above most people when it comes to my preferred area of roleplay -- medical RP.

Give a detailed roleplay situation example showing your ability to handle insubordinate units. See above.

Explain why it’s very important that you behave appropriately as the GRID Divisional: Despite what some others have claimed, perhaps the best way to play a leader isn't as the serious dictator many aspire to be, or picture when they think of a 'DvL'. In my opinion, opinionated as it may be, I think an ideal leader has many traits or behavioral trends that come together to make up your quintessential honcho.

I don't care if this is the Mongol horde or the peace-loving Iceland Crisis Response Unit, being unjustly cruel or impertinent doesn't get you anywhere. You can lead by intimidation, you can lead by respect, but a little of both goes a long way. You should command respect by actions and presence, not rank or artificial authority -- or worse, fear-mongering. An application is already all too telling to an observant bystander. Enough distance should be maintained that you're still viewed as an authority figure and not a friend. A mentor perhaps, but still the boss. There's a careful balance between being a shitbird and making it unpleasant for all parties, and being the plucky nice guy. Always give someone a second chance at redemption, if it's within reason.

In the field - I suppose in the streets is more appropriate - I think you should maintain a tactful attitude tempered with threat assessment and strict tolerance. Punishment should escalate doubly in proportion to the crime committed so as to prevent the suspect, whoever they may be, from doing it again. I have a feeling that would go against the accepted protocol, and would most likely be a source of contention. I also feel that it would make for a more interesting experience to see more crimes punished off the books, perhaps in unorthodox fashion. It may not fit in to what people think the Union is, but I think there's some value in the old generation's ways of getting even. A suckerpunch for a suckerpunch, an alternative option presented instead of just tossing them in a four foot by two foot cube. Personal flavor, however.

TL;DR is this.
-Demand respect via presence and actions, not artificial authority/rank.
-Be strict but fair, always give people a second chance.
-Calm, cool, collected.
-Don't talk in OOC, unless you have to. Period. Take it to PMs.
-Don't be a dick for no reason, because we're all here for the same reason in the end.
-Don't be afraid to be objective and push against the grain to achieve your goals and get the job done.
-Bias yourself towards the truth of a given situation and don't be afraid to comment - be progressive, not reactive.
-While distance is important and objectivity is important, valued much the same is trust and confidence in your subordinates. You may be in charge but you're still a part of the team, same as everyone else, and a mutual brotherhood is shared between them. Don't be afraid to hear the opinions and concerns of your peers, as leadership is for the most part (particularly in garrysmod) a psychological game.
-Don't be a shitbird.

I view the DvL as a mediator. Your job is not to get in people's face and micromanage or go and get wrecked on the streets. Your job is to manage, oversee, delegate, advise, so on. But, to more directly answer the question, it's important to act right as DvL because you need to set an example for others.

Why is it important that you get recruited over all the other applicants?: The other applicants in question offer good ideas and guidance, but as far as I can judge, both teeter on opposite, equally acute sides of leadership style. I see one being suited more to the role of disciplinarian more than leader, and the other too dispassionate and readily accepting of another person in his place.

Are you able to perform as a forum moderator as you will be responsible for the GRID section of the forum?: I can, if needed.

Do you already have the MPF whitelist?: Yes, I do.

This has to be the best app I've seen, minus the RP examples, which I can understand.
To be honest, I'd follow this guy's advice in my HELIX DvL if only it would get accepted.

Unacceptable, add roleplay examples. If you don't your odds at success isn't that high. As of now I will -Support since the application is not complete. When it's complete, I will re-vote.

I don't think anyone should give a damn about roleplay examples. I believe damn near every one of you has seen this guy's roleplaying capabilities. Detailed and thoughtful.

I know it's a format but if you seriously believe in following the format's every last detail then every unit of the MPF should be amputated because they don't fit the real Civil Protection format of duty and behavior.

The reason I didn't add roleplay examples, among others, is (as I wrote) that I want people to consider my application not based on my ability to type out a detailed paragraph of roleplay that I have the liberty of editing back and forth repeatedly over the course of hours up to days to make 'perfect' and show myself in the best light.

I would like to be considered not for being able to type out how to 'deal with lower ranked units' but rather the promise offered within. In my mind, a leader isn't chosen because he's adept at wasting time with paragraphs of roleplay when in combat, he's chosen because of the potential for change, the ideas he wants to bring, the initiative he offers to go out and do things to finish what needs to be done for the better of the division, or in this case, faction.

Ultimately, I might be willing to provide roleplay examples despite my reasons, but I would be disappointed to find that personal character and everything else I have to offer is overshadowed by a ten line roleplay example, which I personally find redundant except to determine if the applicant is going to fill out the form to the letter. I can see where you might find some specific nitpicks among situations described, but that aside, the only purpose I can see is to tell if he's going to write paragraphs upon paragraphs or not.

I don't ask to be chosen on the spot, I don't ask to be crowned the high king without any doubt. All I ask is fair consideration for the content present in my application, with the understanding that the redacted roleplay examples were intentional as an effort on my part to a) get attention and b) make the reader consider what the candidate was thinking, and potentially consider what other candidates would do in the future - their thought processes - in contrast to just what was written and their aptitude at breaching doors. As before, if you deem it 'ultimately necessary' with no other considerations, I can be willing to provide them.

Honestly you just can't defeat that flawless argument. I agree with him, and would have done the same but I believe in BSTS. (Better Safe Than Sorry)

The detailed roleplay examples is there to see if you can actual roleplay as a high ranking unit or not.
Other key factors will be put into place as in your activity and your dedication, as well as how you would handle a situation.

I understand stand what you are saying, but it is for the sake of argument. I am sure people have seen you roleplay on the server, and I am sure you are fantastic at it. Some haven't seen you rp on the server, so filling in the detailed examples would help them make a decision. You could be the most dedicated, active, and nicest roleplayer on the server, but if you aren't good at rp you aren't gonna get anywhere. Once again, it is for the sake of argument, everyone has to do it when they apply.

The best looking application of the grid applications so I feel that it needs a response. Now bear with me, its midnight and I'm loopy so this may not seem like much sense. I have two major reasons for denying this app. The first being that you didn't follow the format. I know that you had a very valid reason for not putting it up but if it was optional I would have said so. The second being the fact I know you own and operate another community and it hit me that running the largest division on another server while juggling your own server might hinder your community and I can't have that.
